“I have been reading the Power of Now and rereading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. So much of what he says resonates with me. I have been trying to apply many of the principles. Because I tend to live so much in my head, it’s not an easy task to quiet my mind or simple just observe my thoughts. However, I am working on it 🙂

The most challenging part for me is with my kids. I try hard not to react but instead respond. When I set this intent, it works for a little while but then I find myself reverting back to my old ways and getting upset very easily and simply just reacting. What I am having trouble with is staying present and observing my thoughts while in the “thick” of it. I feel like my emotions take over so quickly and observing what is going on is not even an option-until afterwards (when Im feeling guilty for yelling instead of calmly handling the situation).

So my question is what can I do to help stay more present and not allow my emotions to take over so quickly… I know all the things I “should” be doing and intellectually I understand what needs to be done but what to do in the day to day reality of these situations-how to notice and stop my “knee jerk reactions”. Thank you for any insights.” ~ Sarah, New York, NY

When you are in the “thick of it”, it is not so easy to manage your thoughts. I want to encourage you to start setting your intentions before you find yourself in the midst of chaos or resistance.

As you lay your head down on your pillow at night, set your intentions for the way you want your next day to go. Envision the ease and flow with your children and even envision how YOU are calm and centered even in the midst of their chaos.

Before your feet hit the ground in the morning, have a little meeting from your Higher Self to your children’s Higher Selves connecting and agreeing on how you are wanting your day to unfold. See them as the angels they are even as you remember the angel YOU are!

As you look back on times where they have pushed your buttons, find the humor in it as it eases your resistance. Laugh at yourself and them, and acknowledge yourself for being the powerful creator you are!

It is a work in progress, of course. And you do have the ability to soften the edges of resistance each time you find yourself “in the thick of it” when you do the energetic work each day to set your tone for the day and the tone for what you are creating.
