Movies can be a fantastic source of inspiration when you are feeling low or out of ideas. Here are seven incredibly inspiring movies you should watch the next time you feel like you’re having trouble with your momentum.

This Is How You’ll Feel After Watching Any Of The Movies On This List!
This is how you’ll feel after watching any of the movies on this list!

1. Julie and Julia

In the early years of the 21st century, Julie Powell was feeling down and uninspired and, on a kind of crazy whim, decided to cook her way all the way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child in a single year and blog about the experience (in real time as it was happening).

Julie and Julia is based both on her experiences and the experiences Julia Child went through trying to get the book published in the first place. Meryl Streep as Julia Child is adorable.

2. Big Fish

If you didn’t know the movie was done by Tim Burton, you wouldn’t ever think this movie was made by him. The movie is based on Daniel Wallace’s book and tells the story of a father and son’s reconciliation after a long estrangement. This is done through the son’s retelling of his father’s tall tales, which are shown to the movie viewer in a series of vignettes. The movie has an incredible cast and when it’s done, you’ll want to make sure you tell your own stories to the people you love.

3. It’s a Wonderful Life

A man down on his luck, sure that the world would have been better off without him, is shown exactly whether or not that is true. If you ever need to renew your faith in the human race, this is the movie to watch.

4. Love Actually

This charming ensemble cast picture tells the story of a bunch of people whose lives are all separate but also intertwined in some really fun ways and how they navigate the weeks leading up to Christmas.

It explores a variety of different types of loving relationships from life-long friends to unrequited love to the love between a father and son, the different facets of romantic love, and everything in between. You’ve heard of movies that have “heart.” This movie personifies everything about that idea.

5. E.T.

A boy and an alien bond and… do you really not know the story of E.T.? This is one of those movies that inspires you for one reason when you’re a little kid but inspires you for entirely other reasons when you are an adult–which, really, is the genius of all of Stephen Spielberg’s early work.

6. Goonies

Goonies R Good Enough! Goonies never say die! This is the quintessential story of a bunch of good kids triumphing over some evil adults. And a giant octopus. And pirates. And treasure hunting. And adventure and booby traps and Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and Martha Plimpton before they became the major household names they are today. It’s impossible to not love and be inspired by this movie.

7. Anything and Everything Featuring the Muppets

Okay, we’re cheating and bundling a bunch of inspiring and great movies under one category. This is because it’s just too hard to pick a favorite Muppet film to highlight here.

The most recent movie The Muppets is a beautiful and heartfelt love letter to the original series that both reintroduces the story and characters to a new generation of kids and reacquaints the adults who grew up with them to the memories that they cherish from their own childhoods. Beyond the most recent movie, you’ve got lots of other options. Have a marathon and watch them all!

It’s true: If you’re having a rough time, put any one of these movies. You’ll start to feel better within about ten minutes of starting any of them!
