Every time we go on a beach vacation, to Mexico for instance, we end up at an all-inclusive resort.  We love it because everything is taken care of. We don’t need to worry about cooking or what to do at night because all is provided. Just relax and recharge for a week or so and enjoy.

Our kids love it, our friends love it, and we love it.  There is one thing in particular, however, that I found intriguing, which made me understand what the body needs to be healthy and in proper working condition.

Here is how that realization happened. You would think that at a resort where you can eat any time you want in any quantity, your body would suffer. Because here you usually let yourself go (“Why not, you are on vacation“), so sweets, eating late, eating much more than you usually do, etc. are all common. Thus, it would lead to reason that you would feel worse on vacation because you aren’t following any good dietary practices.

FeatherHowever, I didn’t find that to be the case because of the other things that we also do on vacation:

  1. Get plenty of sleep
  2. Get plenty of sun
  3. Get lots of fresh air
  4. Be a lot more active than at work in terms of physical activity
  5. Be in the salty water

So it didn’t matter how bad I felt before vacation and the fact that I generally ate like “crap” during it, I always felt great. You might think that a lack of stress would also be a factor in feeling great (and I agree), but we certainly had plenty of stress with the travel and two children, underlining the importance of these factors.

So, while nutrition, exercise and stress reduction are vitally important, try to add these 5 things to your daily routine and make your body feel great while on vacation or in daily life.
