Dangerous Money Beliefs - DebtWe all have a dark side that we don’t want others to know.

This can also include the people, places, and situations that we were around as children growing up.

It can also involve things we weren’t aware of– that at the time may not have been that big of a deal—which ultimately surfaced and became a major challenge, even a life threatening situation.

Growing up I was blessed to have wonderful parents and a step father who taught me some powerful life skills that completely transformed my life in a positive way.

There were also many wonderful friends and the close relationships I have with some amazing people…

But underneath all of this was something that was hidden. And when it surfaced my life was turned completely upside down.

This all had to do with money. More accurately the very subtle and innocent comments that got “thrown” around by family, friends, and other people I grew up around. This even included some of the TV shows I used to watch as well.

You see there was always this negative attitude towards people who were rich and living what looked like a very wealthy life.

This ranged from people I went to school with that always made comments about the “rich kids” to family members who were living under similar beliefs.

Comments like, “money is the root of all evil”, “money brings out the worst in people”, and “filthy rich” were very common to hear.

And this gave rise to the two most dangerous beliefs about money that keep people in debt…

  • He/she is a greedy person
  • He/she only cares about the money (they’re only in it for the money)

It was these two beliefs that were hidden and then without my knowing it, surfaced and then proceeded to turn my life upside down.

It was these two beliefs that landed me into over $100,000 in debt…which took over 4 years to get out of.

It was these two beliefs that wiped out my excellent credit which took over 15 years to build up.

This was all so crazy because here I was looking at other people as being greedy and only in it for the money, but yet they were enjoying their life and I wasn’t.

They were able to take care of their family and those they cared about most…and I wasn’t.

And they also didn’t care what others thought about them…but I was worried about what other people would think about me if I had the money that these “greedy” people had.

But it was also these two beliefs that help turned my life around and led me down the path to living a financial freedom based lifestyle.

How did that happen?

Because it got me to put a higher value on money

It first got me to realize that all of these people I saw as being “greedy”, that they had a high value on money and that it was allowing them to care for the most important people in their lives.

What it also got me to realize was that these people who “were in it only for the money”, that they had something of value to contribute to the world…which is what helped them become wealthy in the first place.

This was the thing I never noticed about these people until I got to know some of them on a more personal level.

And these were the two major life takeaways that I got which helped me get out of that $100,000 “hole” I was in—while also leading down that path of now being able to live a financial freedom based lifestyle.

Now here’s what I want you to do…

Be aware of the words you use. Because they can and do make the difference between being in that huge financial hole and having that financial freedom based lifestyle.

And most importantly…

Put a higher value on money and saving money. This involves taking the time to look in your own life and see how having more money can help the areas of life (and the people) who are most important to you.

There is no such thing as a “greedy” person.

However, there is such a thing as an amazing and special person who has something very valuable to  contribute to the world with their uniqueness…

And that person is you!

But that was only half the challenge. The main challenge was to overcome the negative programming I wasn’t aware of and that required an unwavering belief in myself. Out of this came my favorite quote, “to those who believe no proof is necessary, to those who don’t no proof is possible.”
