Brilliance Archives

Each day, we ask our Luminary to answer, “If you only had 500 words to share, what wisdom would you want to pass on to humanity? Dare To Be You

Be who you are. Don’t try to mimic anyone else. Be uniquely you, because (and this is quite amazing) there is no one else in this world exactly like you and never will be! If you continue to strive to be someone you’re not, you’ll not only remain unhappy and unfulfilled, you’ll also deprive others of the gift of yourself—the very special “someone” only you can give. That would be a tragedy. Okay, so now you may wonder. . . “How can I be myself if I don’t really know who I am yet?” Good question. The first thing I’d… Read more.

Show Love In All Ways

If it were my last day here on this earth in a physical form, I would leave these words with others so they may share the love I had in my life. To love people right, whether you knew them or not. To be willing to learn what you can change so you may know how to live life right and to the fullest – so you may impact this world instead of just living in this world. To show the people in your life that you love them by actions and not only by words of “I Love You.”… Read more.

Healing Emotional Pain

Do not ignore the emotional wounds you sustain in daily life. Do not believe that ignoring emotional pain is a sign of strength. Do not believe that feeling emotional pain is a sign of weakness or psychological frailty. Do not believe that being in touch with your feelings, knowing you hurt, and wishing you didn’t diminishes you in any way. Do not think of yourself as weak when you experience the pain of rejection. Do not consider yourself undesirable when you know the ache of loneliness. Do not punish yourself when you carry the burden of guilt. Do not lose… Read more.

Whatever the Situation, We Can Always Love

It is a very rare privilege to be able to share two modest insights on life with an audience such as you. I am most grateful for this opportunity. At one period in my life, I seemed to be right on the top of things: A successful trainer and writer, a comfortable income, exceptional health, a marriage given in example by all and a spiritual path of 40 years standing. And then in the space of a few months, everything came crashing down: my fabulous marriage; I faced the greatest health challenge of my life (with very dire medical… Read more.

Children, Breakfast, and a Lesson for Adults

Not long ago I was in Seoul South Korea having breakfast in the restaurant of the Westin Chosen Hotel. You can order off a menu or go to the various cooking stations and chefs in tall – crisp-white chef’s hats will cook eggs or other foods to order. But this is not about the food, but the children from various countries who were there having breakfast with their parents. The children would go with their parents and stare at amazement at the guy with the tall white hat on his / her head – they were in awe. It did not… Read more.

Success on Your Own Authentic Terms

If I could encourage humanity to do anything, it would be for each individual to always stay true to him or herself. Throughout my creative journey, I have learned that everyone may not understand or encourage your visions, but it is not up to them to do so. I believe that each of us has been given a divine purpose. Once you realize what your talent or gift is, as well as what you feel you were created to achieve, hold on to that. It is your truth, a realization that no person can take away from you unless you… Read more.

Listen To The Rhythm Within

Listen above all else. Listen intricately. Not merely to words but to cadence, to verbal rests—the space between words- to the music of communication. Listen with all your senses. This widens your perceptual lens so you can transform what you might now deem ordinary, into the extraordinary. Listen to the instant messages from your body. Listen physically. Start a friendly, internal dialog with your body. Drop down deeply into your sensory body. Thank it for all the stories it has seen you through. Noticing is healing. Creative noticing is alchemical for a body. Treat it as the magical vessel that… Read more.

Your Relationships, Your Legacy

What matters most in life is relationships. They define the quality of your time on Earth and determine the legacy you leave behind. Reaching out to people and letting them into your heart offers you – and them – the warmth and comfort that only deeply caring friends can bestow. So why aren’t more of us able to establish these critical connections? The answer’s simple – fear. And getting past it is the first hurdle to building lasting, meaningful relationships. Facing your fear isn’t easy, but in relationship building, like bodybuilding, it’s no pain, no gain. Many of us fear… Read more.

6 Empowering Ideas for Making the Most out of Life

If I can do it, you can do it. It’s true! So many of the cliches I have learned are true. Don’t waste time beating yourself up all the time and focusing on your flaws or weaknesses, and/or being around people who do it for you (unfortunately, sometimes even better than you). Know you are loved. Know you are magnificent. Know you are so very unique and special with unique talents and gifts to share with this world. Everyone has an interesting story to tell and wisdom to offer and special things to do in their lifetime. Focus on your… Read more.

6 Ways to Value Yourself

Begin with self-value… Value yourself. Value your Self. Your value never changes. You can’t increase it and you can’t diminish it. Sure, the value of your actions can vary, but the value of who you are never, ever will. Never confuse your actions, possessions and connections with who you are. If you don’t yet know the difference between who you are, and all the things you do and own, it’s time to start on getting to know yourself in a whole new way. Imagine yourself as a song. What is your personal “tone”, your personal “sound”? Make it part of everything… Read more.

Take Charge of Your Life

Be a doer, not a watcher. So many temptations lure you into sitting on the sidelines of life, just watching: riveting TV shows and movies, websites, social media. We emerge blinking and wondering where the time went. Turn off the distractions. Map your dream. Take one step toward it every day. Your time is your most precious asset. Do not give it away carelessly, and don’t fritter it away. Learn to say no to requests for your time that don’t get you closer to your dream. Don’t let time get away from you. Wake up before everyone else and feed… Read more.

The Beauty I See In You

I long for you to know the beauty I see in you, to know that you are enough just as you are, that you are loved beyond measure and capable of anything. I long for you to know that you are an infinite soul here simply to have the human experience, to share your gifts and find your way home to love. There is no place but right here. There is no time but right now. You chose this brave life, you are home, you have arrived. Release the striving for more, YOU are the more. Release comparing yourself with… Read more.

The Skill You Need To Stop Making Bad Decisions

Have you ever made a bad decision? Looking back, was it avoidable, if only you had sought out advice? If not, then congratulations: you are uniquely blessed. If so, then welcome to our club, a large one indeed. Avoidable bad decisions happen to everyone, and they keep happening to some. Why? Parents and teachers train us to apologize when causing harm and to give thanks when accepting help. But nobody trains young people, when they have an important decision to make, to ask themselves if they have the knowledge and experience to handle it, and if not, who does and… Read more.

Call on Your Imagination and Inspiration for Guidance

What inspires you? Have you thought about that lately? What inspires you? Who inspires you? Where do you go to recharge your batteries? How do you stay centered and grounded during the type of economic upheaval we’re living through? Are you able to keep your thoughts positive and your outlook for you and your loved ones optimistic? Do you feel confident about the future or do you feel uneasy and concerned? As a financial planner, being an optimist is pretty much non-negotiable. Fortunately for me, that’s easy as I was born with the glass is half full mentality. Yet being… Read more.

Stopping the War Against Yourself

On a daily basis, I pause, put my hand on my chest and whisper, “I will not make war against my own heart.” I have many opportunities to practice, as I make many mistakes. Each time, I want to jump on myself. Each time, I choose: do I judge myself or let it go? This is an act of courage for me, as it goes against ingrained habits of beating myself up. It’s an opening, an embracing of all of life; an embracing of all of me. It is unconditional love. It’s not easy. The mind loves to judge. To… Read more.

10 Steps to a Healthier Life

For many of us, work isn’t done when the clock strikes five or when the weekend rolls around. Work is done only when we say it is done because there is always more to explore, unwrap, analyze, sell, make, create, or ponder. That’s the issue, at hand, for all of us Type A personalities, hard workers, go-getters, entrepreneurs, and workaholics. The sky’s the limit…or put, more succinctly, we’re the limit. The problem is, we’re not meant to be pushed to a limit. We’re meant to ebb and flow. We’re meant to honor the two sides of ourselves: the active and… Read more.

How To Become An Explorer of Your Life

Wonder. Curiosity. Awe. Amazement. As we grow, we often lose these childlike qualities that make life a true gift. If we’re lucky, we have our own children, and get to rediscover the newness of the world. But that curiosity can be hard to hold onto. We often get stuck in life. We are told that this is the way things are. We are told not to ask questions. We are limited by fears or voices in our heads that tell us our dreams aren’t possible. We forget that solutions exist outside of the multiple choice options we have been given…. Read more.

When Failure Isn’t An Option

Ever since I was a little kid, this has been my favorite question: “What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?” A teacher presented this to me one day in class when I wasn’t exactly living up to my full potential. At first, I dismissed it as kids often do, but it stuck with me for days. When I finally directed my full attention to it, I became quite fond of it, and the way it sparked my imagination. As a kid, I thought that question was simply fun, but as an adult I understand its true brilliance…. Read more.

Honoring The Divine Within

I have the Sanskrit symbol for Namaste tattooed on my right hip. Not the kind of tattoo that only lasts through a few showers and a good long swim. The I-let-them-stick-needles-in-me kind. I love that sweet little tattoo and the forever reminder of how sacred the concept of Namaste is to me. Part of the final step in my Juicy Joy training is the installation of the Namaste Lens. Simply put, Namaste means: The divine in me recognizes and honors the divine in you. It’s waking up to the divine God-Love energy that runs through us all, connecting us in… Read more.

It’s Time to Accept Others – and Yourself!

We are all unique individuals with our experiences, culture, perspectives, and beliefs. We need to embrace these differences that define us and own who we are in order to be true to ourselves. So often people feel they need to conform, fade back and shy away from what truly makes them unique and special to all of those around them. We need to be free to show up as ourselves and let our own light shine in all we do. Not only do we need to accept ourselves, but we need to be open to others and their differences. Even… Read more.
