“The greatest among you, shall be your servant.” This has been one of the verses I have lived my life on and want to pass on to you. If you believe that you are created in God’s image, and every other human is too, that will translate in every facet of your life.

My son asks me, “Why do you do things for others?” I say to him, “Son, I am serving another of God’s image bearers.” I show him that service is an important part of life by exemplifying in my life. Our words can never speak more loudly than our actions.

The amazing thing about serving others and giving is that it positively affects the giver. You can’t give to others without also reaping benefits yourself. When you see yourself as a servant leader, you will never lack for an audience to help. Always remember that wherever you are in life, there is always someone you can help in some way. When you look for ways to help others, you’ll find that you are constantly blessed with things.

Encourage others, stop to hear what people are saying to you, put yourself in the other person’s shoes, think before you speak, and above all, put on love as the supreme ethic whenever you interact with others.

Being truthful while being obnoxious is repulsive. Being truthful while being loving is so attractive. My parents instilled in me a truth that says “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.” I want to pass that truth on to others and encourage more people to make kindness a way of being every day.

When we think of kindness, we assume that it has to be some grand act in order to account. Not so. Something as simple as a gentle word, a smile, or a small token can dramatically impact another person in a positive way. No matter how it may seem on the outside, we’re all dealing with something. Your kindness may make all the difference to someone who is suffering or going through a difficult time. Service is not about the size of the gift you give. Rather, it’s about the size of your heart when you give. It’s about your intentions and the ripple effect of doing good.

Take a moment and think about what you can do each day to be a servant to others. Before you begin each day, ask yourself, “How will I serve another today?”

    1. Kindness and helping others are kissing cousins. Thank you for summing up the importance of both. Our society today is going in the opposite direction.. All of us, particularly our children are paying a dear price for it. I pray that your words will penetrate the hearts of many, and help to make changes toward becoming better people.
