Ask a Luminary

“Two weeks ago my crush sent me a friendship request on Facebook and he told me that he likes me. I was so happy but since then we haven’t talked. I texted him once after that but the last message is always mine — I feel like he’s not interested in me anymore. The sad part is that I will never see him again after this week , he’s going to another country! And I don’t know if I should tell him that I like him or not — what if he ignores me and I’ll look so stupid? What should I do, please?” ~ Lisa, Paris

Dear Lisa,

Here are several things I’ve learned in life that have helped me through times like this:

Follow your heart, not your fears. Instead of worrying about what might be, live in the moment and enjoy what is. Focus on what you want, not that which you fear. Trust that your heart will never lead you down the wrong path and that the Universe is always bringing you blessing- even when your prayers aren’t answered in a way that you’d like. Know that everything always happens for a good reason and that there is blessing in everything- especially when you can’t see it in the moment.

LIVE your life! Life is short and the opportunities that come to us may not come again. Chances are, at the end of your life your regrets won’t be for things you did, but rather, for those that you didn’t. Reach out to your friend and take the chance for happiness!

Be honest, even when it makes you vulnerable. Let your friend know how you feel, even if it’s scary to do. The long-term joy will always far outweigh any short-term pain.

Bottom line is this – If you don’t reach out now, you may lose him forever. If you reach out and tell him how you feel, you might be rejected and he won’t be a part of your future. But if he isn’t interested, you’ve lost nothing- for you never had him in the first place.

If you have the courage to speak to him from your heart, he might feel the same and then, magic happens. But, the magic can’t happen without you first having the courage to share your feelings with him.

All the best!
