Do Less, Do More-Recommendations From Twitter

I love how my blogs take on a life of their own. On Friday, I tweeted a saying that I saw on a wooden box at a museum in New York City last week. It read...  "Fear less, hope more; eat less, chew more; whine less, breath more; talk less, say more; hate less, love more; and all good things are yours." I got a tweet right back that said, "Bark less, wag more". Within a few seconds the idea for a blog was born. I then sent this request to Twitter: Pls recommend 1 thing to do less and…

We Teach Our Children Best By Our Example

A few days ago I spent the morning with my friend Amy, a 45 year-old mom and her 12 year-old daughter, Sara. For more than an hour we talked about Sara's dream to be a recording artist when she's older. Both her mother and I encouraged her and told her that she could do anything she set her mind to. We supported her 100% with great enthusiasm. Interestingly enough, I asked Amy, the mom, about her own dream. Shyly, she told me that she'd love to be a writer and actually has a book or two in her closet that…

Embracing Crazy in New York

When is the last time you had a really crazy idea? You know what I mean... an idea that is so big it's frightening, but at the same time there is such excitement in the possibility that you can't wait to share it with someone else? Many times in my life when I've shared  an idea with a friend, I've heard, "That's crazy!"  If you're anything like me, you too have had this experience.  Those two words- "That's crazy",  have killed too many dreams and have literally stopped success in its tracks. But what if..... instead of running away from…

Twitter- It’s Not Brain Science, or is it?

Serendipity is one of my favorite things in life. I just received a telephone call from a Twitter friend, sharing how one of my tweets last week made her think bigger. With one little generic tweet, something triggered her to take action, resulting in a positive difference in her business. How cool is that! Just a few days ago I was on the telephone with my daughter asking for her help in finding someone who knows about the science of the brain. I'm writing a book and want to include information from a scientific point of view, but I don't…

Hopes, Dreams and Resolutions for 2010!

Happy New Year! For many of us, when we think of the New Year, our minds turn to our hopes, dreams and resolutions for the upcoming year. Today Darryl and I celebrated the end of 2009 and welcomed 2010 with about a dozen friends, by going snowshoeing in the Swan Mountains of Northwestern Montana. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Nature at her finest, I too found myself reflecting back on 2009 and contemplating the magic of 2010. Each year we get the present of another year. So far in my life, I've had 51 of these sparkly presents wrapped…

There’s No Place Like Gnome

During the last few weeks as I've been posting photos and sharing stories from our small town, several on-line friends have compared our life here in Bigfork, Montana, to that of a Currier and Ives postcard. Just a few days ago my friend Del Williams told me that I "live in a Hallmark card". She's right. That description fits our little mountain town perfectly. For years, this sleepy little mountain town has been decorated with 2' tall wooden Christmas gnomes scattered throughout the town. My son has wanted one of these gnomes as a holiday present for the past 10…

All I Want For Christmas…

This week in honor of the Christmas holiday, we asked..... "All I want for Christmas is...... " As I was writing this blog, the song "All I Want For Christmas" came on XM Radio in the background. I had a hard time not writing "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth", but no one included that in their response. :) Still, the serendipity of this old song coming on just as I was writing this made me smile. Here are the responses we received from a bunch of interactive peeps that we recommend for you to follow.…

Celebrating Differences

Just a few days ago I wrote a blog called "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things". The blog included my personal favorite things as well as a list compiled from contributions from 100 friends in my social media family. This blog spurred conversation with my immediate and my extended family that brought up some very interesting stuff. My husband and I discussed this blog when he was out of town, before I posted it. It was a cold wintry day in Montana and Darryl asked me if I had the fire going. I told him that I didn't,…

Winter Wonderland

Many of my Twitter friends think that we live in a Hallmark card, as our small town in Montana is a very picturesque place. Today was such a magical day that I decided to share it with you in photos. (And, if you make it to the end of the blog, there's a musical present for you... or you could listen to it while you read through the blog and view the photos.) As is the tradition in our family, Darryl and I reserved this day to find our Christmas tree. We left our home on Flathead Lake and headed…

The Best FREE Gift in the World- YOU!

Each week we ask our on-line family for their input with our question of the week. This week we asked: With the holidays fast approaching and $ being tight, what’s the most meaningful FREE gift you can suggest? Please be creative! As you might expect, the answers were deep, insightful and filled with love. By far, the overwhelming majority of responses recommended spending time and sharing love with others. Many suggested the simple gift of being present for someone you love.  Others offered handmade gifts made with love through writing a letter of appreciation, a poem, a song, sharing recipes…

How Can We Best Serve You?

Happy Tuesday from beautiful Montana. We woke this morning to a light dusting of snow that just set off the brilliance of the mountains against the dark colors of the evergreen forests. Knowing that there are times in our day when we all need a little inspiration, I'm including a photo for you taken from my office this morning. As it turns out, today was one of those days for me where I needed inspiration. I started my day dealing with a lot of financial stuff- changing accounts over from one bank to another, changing our merchant account and just…

Sunset Gratitude

Today's blog post is very different, in that I'm sharing some photos with you rather than words. I believe that these two photos say so much that few words are necessary. Both were taken tonight from our deck overlooking Flathead Lake in Northwestern Montana. We have so very much to be grateful for! In fact, we spent the entire day celebrating the season, putting up holiday lights and warming by a roaring fire. It's been the perfect day and I just had to share it with you. May the peace of this season bless you and yours.

100 Tweets of Gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving! This week we asked this question on Twitter: With Thanksgiving fast approaching, what are you most thankful for and how do you celebrate it every day? We received more than 100 responses and the while the answers were not surprising individually, collectively they caused me to think in a deeper way. Over 50% of those who responded were grateful for the people in their lives- the relationships with friends and family. Nearly 20% expressed thanks for being alive and their connection to God/the Universe. Possibility, opportunity and good health were mentioned in 15% of the responses. Many things…

Love And Thanks To My On-Line Community

This week I posted a blog about the great community where we live in northwestern Montana.  However, living in remote community, working from my home and having a husband that travels every other week, my on-line community is extra important to me. It's my on-line community, usually through Twitter, that I turn to when I have a question, want to share exciting news or just want to chat with a friend. You're there at 2am when I'm not ready to sleep. You're there when I'm stuck on my blog and can't make WordPress work right. You're there to make me…
