The phenomenon known as LOST is now part of history. There are no new episodes, no new adventures, no new twists, no new riddles to solve. The writers have answered most of our questions and have left some of them for us to figure out on our own. They have also left an indelible impression and have raised the bar for a new level of television.

LOST has also left us with things to ponder and lessons to learn. After the finale I sat and wrote things that I learned from LOST. Some are direct quotes and others are observations. I welcome your input and I invite you to add to the list in the comment section below. Let’s get LOST together….

-Not everything is what it appears to be

– There is no “now, or “here”.

– Everything is a matter of perspective.

– No one can tell us why we’re here, but ourselves.

– Exploring the “What if” can create amazing results.

– Question reality or whatever it is that we think is real.

– Everyone has a gift to offer the world.

– We all know everything about our selves that we need to know right now… we just need to open our eyes and see it.

– Everything is connected- especially us.

– Helping each other is the best way to help yourself.

– I don’t believe in a lot of things but I do believe in duct tape.

– If we don’t find a way to live together, we’ll all die alone.

– Faith doesn’t come easy but it’s worth the struggle.

– Finding our way, is always easier when we’re surrounded by friends.

– The world would be a better place if we all did what we do best.

– Take care of one another.

– Sometimes, no matter how much you want to be rescued, you’re much better off where you are.

– Nobody does it alone. We need others and they need us…. to remember and to let go.

– You haven’t ruined anything. Nothing is irreversible…. (This would be so sweet if we weren’t all about to die.).

– The words “I believe in you, Dude” can have an amazing effect on the outcome of a situation.

– If polar bears can live in the jungle then anything is possible.

-You can’t let other people tell you what you are… you have to decide that for yourself.

– It’s only when we let go of the past that we’re able to move forward into the future.

– If there is no “here” or “now”, then can parallel realities really be parallel?

– Nothing is what you think it is.

– I’m real, you’re real, all of these people are real…. yet none of it is real.

– What happened, happened.

– I hope that somebody does for you what you just did for me.

– Love transcends all boundaries of space, distance and time.

– It’s all about remembering who you are.

– The meaning of life is to give life meaning.

– When all is said and done, love is all there is.

I think my fellow LOST fans will agree that we lost many hours in the last 6 years… but the ones watching LOST don’t count.

LOST, you were an incredible, mind-bending, thought provoking, heart-opening way to help us think outside of our boundaries. You helped us see the world in a different way. Thank you for enriching our lives with your wit, your intelligence and for offering us the challenge to define what’s possible for ourselves. I for one, will be #LOST without you. See you in another life, Brother. 🙂

  1. Duh, Gail
I don’t get it. Lost was just another TV series, there will be another one to come along just like after Seinfeld.
Hmm maybe Jerry was right, Quote “Men don’t care what’s on TV. They only care what else is on TV.”~
    Jerry Seinfeld 🙂
    HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND

    1. Lynn, I’m glad the producers/writers left unanswered questions. Look at how that’s made all of us really look deeper, talk, debate and connect. I think they would say, “Mission accomplished”. 🙂 Look how much connection and conversation this brought to your daughter’s FB page! Isn’t that fun?!

Life never gives us all the answers and LOST was something deeper than the superficial stuff we see on TV. Again, like life, if you go deep enough all the answers will be found… don’t you think?

I really respect and appreciate your opinion. Thanks for sharing it!

      Hugs,
      Gail

  2. Sam, were you a LOST fan? There is so much more to LOST than just a tv series!!! Perhaps it had such an impact because it was the first “intelligent” series I ever watched.

LOST opened my mind and really made me think- as opposed to sheer senseless entertainment. LOST invited us to go deeper and look at the underlying meaning in what we call life. I think it will go down in history as a milestone in television.

I would encourage you to rent the entire series and get LOST all over again. 🙂

    Hugs,

    Gail

  3. I suppose I don’t mind a show leaving us out on a limb. But when there was SO much hype in the advertising and plethora of “countdown” shows promising that the final episode would resolve all unanswered questions, I think they left a lot of fans a bit miffed. Had they promised less, I believe the fans would have been less disappointed.

I loved the show and will miss it. I always delighted in the clever plot twists, and really did think the final resolution could have been a bit more “twisted” than how they treated it. That having been said, I felt an odd sense of “grief” (if that can word can be used) in the last scene when we had to say goodbye to characters we have followed for the past 6 years. Will always remain one of my favourites, regardless of the ending.

  4. That’s funny Gail a TV series about a some Lost souls who died on an airplane crash made you think more about life.
Hmm ,you guys are too complicated for me lol. Bring Back the “Honeymooners”
    🙂

    1. That could be one of the most sexist shows ever! Ah, I’ll take LOST any time. But, thankfully, they make 33 kinds of ice cream just for people like us, with different tastes. 🙂

Hope you are enjoying a beautiful weekend!
      Hugs,

      Gail

  5. Life is like a flower and you may never know which Petal you are.But without all the Petals the flower is not complete. And all Petals are important.
    Kenneth

    1. Tina, be prepared to fall down the rabbit hole. You could literally spend a week catching up with 6 seasons- and it would be awesome. I’m amazed at the lessons of life that they were woven into the fabric of this story. For me, television doesn’t get any better than this. Enjoy!

  6. well, Gail, lost was intellectually incredible, the reading list is incredible, I hope I one day write so eloquently as that. LOST was a great way to realize how to come to terms with ‘your’ life and then move on to embrace life and your life purpose and then let go. Gail, call me whenever you wish, have a good holiday. Hugs, laura
