We have an incredible opportunity to learn things in life by simple paying attention to Nature. For me, today was one of those days.

I woke this morning remembering something Dr. John Dimartini shared with me in our interview. He said that when he wakes in the morning, he won’t get out of bed without first shedding a tear of gratitude. As soon as I woke up this morning, before I ever opened my eyes, I lay there in bed thinking of this and listed the many things I was grateful for. I also had a list of “to do’s” that were calling me, but I pushed them aside. Being grateful was more important.

After a few minutes I opened my eyes…. to snow. It was such a surprise and it was WONDERFUL!

My whole world looked like it was covered in the most beautiful, sparkling white light. I love snow and this was the greatest gift I could have received this morning. It was almost as if the Universe was telling me that everything was going to be okay.P1050880

You see, I went to bed last night trying to resolve an issue on a piece of real estate. It doesn’t matter what the problem is, as I’m sure we all have something in our lives that isn’t quite as we’d like it to be. Mine is a specific piece of property that has been giving me problems for almost a year.

I started the day in such gratitude for the snow and the many blessings in my life. One thing unfolded after another and I watched the roller coaster of my day. It wasn’t until tonight that I sat back to look at the photos I’d taken throughout the day, that I realized…. duh! I’m a very visual person and sometimes I don’t get things until I see them. Here’s the lesson for me in this day….

No matter what happens- this too shall pass.

Sounds easy, but it’s truly that simple. Change is a part of life. It always has been and it always will be. Tonight, I looked back at how I dealt with the stress of the day and also paid attention to what happened in my outside world as well. It all was clear when I looked at the photos that I shot throughout the day. Let me show you what I mean……

The photos above were taken this morning with the new fallen show. Light and possibility were bursting forth. WOW- I felt energized!

Two hours later after being beaten up by the storms of life, I too was ready for a nap.P1050885

I’d already caught a few curve balls and was tired from tossing them back, but I kept going. Another storm was coming. The world got dark and we were pounded once again by snow and freezing rain.

Within a few hours the sun was back and the mountains were covered with the beauty from the storm.

P1050897

And just as I was celebrating the newly fallen snow and a success I’d had in the day, another storm blew in…

P1050887

Again, we were pounded and my world was dark. then just as quickly as it came, it passed and the world was beautiful, fresh and felt so alive…

P1050893

Just in time for another cloud to creep over and pound us again….

P1050900

By late afternoon I thought it was over- both inside and outside and the world looked beautiful again…

P1050907

By evening the sun slowly set over the now, somewhat calm lake and all was right with the world, until it wasn’t….

…For just minutes later a dark cloud blew in and it started all over again…

P1050912

But finally, the calm came after the storm, the sun set over the lake and once again, all was right with the world.P1050922

The morale of my story is this. Just when you think it’s over, it might not be. Just when you think it’s going to be dark forever, the sun will break through.

No matter what happens with my “problem”, it doesn’t matter. It’s not me any more than I am one of these passing storms.  It’s not who I am and it doesn’t have the power to define my happiness- unless I allow it to. Storms will come and storms will go. I remain steadfast in who I am.

It’s up to us to find the beauty in the coming storm and in the wake of its aftermath. Today, for me, that’s playing in the snow. 🙂

My hope for you this evening is that you’re able to find the beauty in your storm. Know that it is just a storm, and that all storms will pass. Sure, there could be another one right behind it, just like my day today, but eventually the sun will come out and shine brilliantly on you and your life.

And on those cloudy days, come on back. I’ll be here each day to cheer you on, wipe the rain from your face and then celebrate the sunny times too. For surely, no matter how dark it may be, this too shall pass.

  3. Wise words, indeed, Gail! And so applicable to many situations in life. Thanks for the reminder that I won’t *always* feel the way I do at this moment. The sun will shine again! And there is great beauty in even the most stormy moments.

  4. Thank you for these beautiful words. I’m reminded of what I read from a bookmark once, “The sky is the darkest when it’s near dawn.”
It’s true no matter what storms may come in our life–whether they be real or metaphorical storms, we can always depend on the sun to come out in the end. Whatever struggle you’re in, you have to believe that this too shall pass. =D
It makes me smile to pick up words of wisdom such as these. Thank you so much.
I too shall leave you with an inspirational article http://sn.im/uxpk2 I hope you like it as much as I did.
