I want to share some nuggets of wisdom that I have learned in my thirty years that will hopefully help you live a more happy and fulfilled life. Enjoy.
Love yourself unconditionally no matter what! If you don’t love yourself, how will you ever be able to love anyone else and fulfill the need for connection that we all so desperately crave. Know that you are a beautiful creation and you deserve all the love and happiness that life has to offer.
Be grateful everyday for another day of life. Don’t take this for granted!
Follow your passions in life, even if they don’t grant huge financial gains. I am not saying you should give it all up and live on the streets but pursue your passions because they help define your purpose in life. They guide you in your journey by keeping you focused on goals that are meaningful.
Treat others the way you want to be treated. In other words, treat others with respect and they will most likely reciprocate. It sounds simple but it will go a long way in creating a life filled with joy. Notice how I said most likely. It is not a guarantee, but if you believe deep down that most people are good-natured and caring, then you will most likely have wonderful interactions with the people you encounter.
Learn to manage your expectations. This is especially true with other people. As I just mentioned, not everyone is going to treat you the way you treat them. Not everyone is going to do things the way you expect them to be done. That’s ok. We are all different and unique. This is what makes our species great – the diversity of it. Managing your expectations of others will prevent a lot of anger and emotional instability. This doesn’t mean you don’t have the right to be disappointed or that you shouldn’t help others develop.
Accept others for who they are, especially those who you frequently interact with. You can only change yourself – no one else. If you can’t love others unconditionally, at least try to accept others unconditionally. I think you will experience less conflict and more happiness.
Live in the present moment as much as possible. The past is over. The future has yet to occur. This doesn’t mean you don’t plan and attempt to make improvements in your life. It means you live in the moment because you don’t know how many more you will be blessed with.
Take risks and don’t look back. Even if they backfire in the end, go for it. You don’t ever want to regret not trying something you are passionate about.
Do whatever you have to in order to be happy. This might require you to be a bit selfish. If this means leaving a relationship, or changing jobs, or moving to another state or country, or whatever, do it. As long you are not harming others in the process, you deserve to be happy.
