To me the word “inspired” means guided by a mystical power from within, or as Webster’s Dictionary defines it “divinely influenced”.

I don’t mean to evoke the image of a separate God intervening in the affairs of people but rather to imply that when a person wholeheartedly gives himself/herself to a worthwhile cause, goal or dream he/she calls up an innate brilliance which defies common comprehension – that’s inspiration, the source of brilliance.

Author and sage, James Lane Allen, wrote, “The Divinity that shapes our ends is in ourselves.” The Gospel of Luke puts it this way, “…the Kingdom of God is within you. And Webster defines “brilliance” as “full of Light” which is ever a symbol of the Divine.

Accessing this brilliance, this inspiration, in ourselves is not only the best way to enhance our lives but the best way to enhance the existence of everyone and everything around us. You see, inspiration is contagious.

More often than not when we say that someone is brilliant we say it because the person inspires us, enlightens us – brightens our outlook and gives us hope. This is why, in spite of all the negative conditions confronting our country and the world, I believe the future is bright with promise.

We have been exposed to the light, the brilliance within ourselves and such brilliance will prevail over all the problems we face. Thus, the best way to insure a bright future for ourselves and the world is for each of us to live an inspired life. To accomplish this, let me suggest, it is a matter of finding in yourself what “turns you on” – what goal, cause or dream you would love to bring into manifestation. Emerson said, “Whatever you want out of life be willing to pay the price and you can take it.”

So, we are required to evaluate the personal cost of our undertaking, our quest. It’s not that we are required to have all the necessary resources in hand before we start but that we are willing to do whatever is required of us (that’s legal and honorable of course), to wholeheartedly give what effort, research, study and energy is called for to accomplish our goal. When we are willing to pay the price we are over the highest hurdle in any quest.

Now clearly define your quest in mind. Visualize it often until you begin to feel what it will feel like when you have achieved your quest. Do this and inspiration will be all over you, bringing up insights and heretofore unseen opportunities and resources.

Finally, in all your questing, remember to honor the “golden rule” – “Always do unto others what you would have others do unto you.” With this rule in place and your quest set clearly in mind you will find yourself living an inspired life, and your achievements will be brilliant.

Jack Groverland is an ordained Unity minister who heads the Unity Church in Boulder. He is also a professional writer with a couple of books and a screenplay under option in Hollywood.

"Life wasn’t always this good," Jack tells us some Sundays from the pulpit. "I grew up in the crime infested ghettos of Hoboken and Jersey City where I learned all the wrong ideas about life. I lived with my father, an immigrant truck driver who couldn’t begin to imagine the life I’m living now. In those dark days I was a petty thief, gang fighter, gambler and fool. I left all that when I escaped from jail under a hail of bullets, and in the process had my first spiritual experience. Too bad that first experience wasn’t all I needed, but it was a good start.

"In short, I changed my name and my life for the better. Still, I never thought I would wind up a Unity minister with a wife and 3 kids in Boulder, Colorado. But here I am. My life is magnificent now but it didn’t get that way overnight. My life evolved over many years of sincere searching for the Truth, which I am privileged to share each Sunday in the Unity pulpit."
