Each week we select our favorite submission for Today’s Brilliance from anyone who cares to contribute to our blog. (Details are available here.) This week’s Brilliance comes to us from Nava Writz at www.navasdesigns.com. English is not Nava’s native language, so she’s asked for our apologies…. but I think her message transcends language and grammar. Thank you Nava for sharing your wisdom with us!

When you hear stories about people coming to the United States, to the “dream land” to fulfill their dreams, know that it happened to me. I am a success story. Back in 1981, I arrived to this country with only $400. I found a job for $4/hour in a baby store which helped me pave the way to start my own line of baby bedding in 1986.
When you hear stories about people recovering from life-threatening cancer, that happened to me. In 1989 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and was given a 20% chance to live. Well 20% can be all you need, as it was in my case and many other’s. I learned to NEVER give up.
When you see adopted kids you wonder about the ways they come to meet their new parents, know that it happened to me in the best of ways. I was there for their birth, in the delivery rooms with the birth mom. We shared the time before and after and still keep in touch.
My sons will know that I wanted them from the start! They were my boys from the first moment on this earth. Hearing from my doctor that I will never be able to carry a child inside my body didn’t mean I was not able to carry a child in my heart! Never give up!
When you hear about people starting a businesses from “scratch” and say to yourself, “yeah right”, don’t! Never give up. I know because that happened to me too! Nava’s Designs is a baby bedding designer line that I created.
I love what I do and have ever since 1986. I dared to dream and I tried everything. Some things worked some didn’t, yet I believe I tried as much as I was able to. You must know that some will fail and some days will not be so rosy yet we always have tomorrow~ Never give up!
When you drive into a high end residential area with posh houses in the hills and you ask yourself who live in those houses , see yourself living in one – no matter how low your salary is at that point! Never give up! One day can move into the same area you’re looking at in admiration. I know, because it happened to me!
When you see a couple and they are kissing and looking so good together remember as much as its sound far from your life, never give up. Dare to list the qualities your seek with your life partner and you will find her or him, because once again, its happened to me.
List your wishes and see them clearly. They can become your reality. I know mine did because I never gave up.
Have God in your heart and give something to someone who doesn’t expect it. It’s such a fun feeling to splurge on the one who no one takes care of!
Love your friends and your friends’ kids, for one day they may come to visit you in your golden age home.
What you need is a great spirit, a great drive and in my case a need to prove to someone who broke my heart that I can make it, which I did, because I never gave up.
Bravo Nava! I’m inspired by your story! You came here with nothing and have built a beautiful, successful life.
Thank you for sharing your story with us. I’m sure you will inspire those who read it.
With gratitude and hugs,
Gail
Nava,
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. It puts many things into perspective, especially if you remember to never give up. Today, I was standing behind an older gentleman at a check-out line in a store that I stopped in to quickly pick up a few things. The gentleman must have felt uncomfortable knowing people were waiting for him because he was taking a long time to check out. He turned to me and apologized for holding me up.
I smiled and said: “If standing in line is the worse thing that happens to me today, then it will have been a great day!”
I felt that he didn’t need to apologize because no one’s time is more or less valuable than mine. And as you so beautifully illustrated, nobody’s dreams are too far out of reach that they can’t be achieved if you never give up.
Warm Regards,
Scott
