A few months ago I married the most amazing man, Darryl. He’s a pilot who travels and is home for a week, then gone for a week. Flying is his passion and he loves what he does. I fully support his flying and the time that it takes him away from “us”, but at the same time, I miss him. Because Darryl travels and I can work from anywhere, we’ve been spending time in Anacortes, WA, house sitting for a good friend while he’s out sailing.
Just last week Darryl and I were talking with his mother about having her bad knee looked at, and scheduled an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon for her to explore her options for repair. My husband shared with me that he’d had knee problems in the past, but stated rather proudly that he hadn’t had a problem with his knee in about 15 years.
We all know about the Law of Attraction, and getting what you focus on in your life, whether you want it or not, right? Well, recently I’ve been focusing on how much I enjoy Darryl and want to spend more time with him. I even told him I wished he would be home for a few weeks to enjoy our time in the Pacific Northwest.
Just this past week, while stepping up onto a wet deck, he slipped and tore his ACL in his left knee. The bad news is this is very painful and prevents him from flying for a few weeks until the knee heals. The good news is, I get to spend more time with him, as he can’t go to work. However, this isn’t what I would have consciously chosen! I almost felt like his accident was my fault because it was an answer to my desire, even though I knew it wasn’t what I had in mind. I was thinking about more time with Darryl, and I got it. I think my error was in not being specific enough in focusing on exactly what I wanted.
It makes me wonder, how many times in life do we focus on what we want but ignore some of the critical details? Where else could a small tweak in my vision and desires have a significant improvement in the quality of my experience? You can bet I’m being more careful in what I’m asking for and more specific in the details. I believe that I’d better “watch what I ask for”, as this Law of Attraction thing really works.
