Born in York, Pennsylvania, I still live in the area with George, my husband of 49 years. Educated in the states of PA and NY, my elementary school teaching career began and ended in the same school district from which I graduated high school. After 41 years in the classroom, retirement beckoned in 2002.

Although summer vacations had often included outdoor activities, serious participation in hiking, wilderness canoeing, whitewater canoeing, canoe slalom, flatwater kayaking, cross-country skiing, and world-wide travel began in the fall of 2002. Interests in weightlifting, aerobic exercise, photography, and creative writing support the physical involvement in paddle sports.

Intrinsic rewards come from the perpetuation of Conewago Canoe Club, an organization co-founded by my husband in 1974; the creation of greeting cards using my own poetry and photos; and the mentoring of young people in educational projects. Photos from my travels introduced an exceptionally enjoyable form of volunteer work-informative, yet inspirational, presentations to any group requesting such a show.

Throughout my teaching career, I constantly encouraged young people to put their best efforts into school-related endeavors. When teaching adult canoeing classes, I found myself working hard to motivate reluctant paddlers to "push the envelope", within their skill levels, of course, when negotiating rapids on a river. Whether male or female, persons of any age can benefit from heart-felt support when trying to "raise the bar" to reach a goal in any area.
