Reflecting upon the years of my work, I have found one consistent truth: one’s emotional state will in no small way determine the quality of one’s life, the depth of one’s relationships, and the degree of physical well-being that is achieved.
Stress is thought of as an amorphous catch-all, and we know it contributes to dysfunction and disease, but the truth is even more potent than that. Emotions are vibrational energy and energy is the source of all creations and manifestations.
When we feel guilt about having more money than members of our family, we limit our ability to create more wealth. When we feel afraid of the dangers of this world, we manifest ailments that prevent us from living our lives fully with radiant health. When we feel our hearts shut down to another for fear that we will be hurt, we attract being abandoned.
The most corrosive of all negative emotions is self-loathing. If you don’t love and accept who you are, if you can’t have compassion for what you’ve done in your past, and you find yourself unable to love yourself as easily as you love others, then you will prevent yourself from living an extraordinary life.
Our bodies, minds, and spirits interact with our emotional state throughout the day on very subtle levels. On a subconscious level, our inner landscapes are more important than what we say out loud. In order to find these hidden sources of negativity, ask yourself what you need to know in order to heal.
The answer will almost always come as a small, still, internal knowing. The inscription at the entrance to the Oracle at Delphi is as important today as it was when it was first written, “Know Thyself”. In knowing who you are and what your unique path is, you will come to serve yourself and others.
Here is an exercise that will help you to hear that small voice and your place in the universe. Set aside a paper and pen next to you so you can jot down the answers upon opening your eyes. Sit in a quiet comfortable place where you’ll be undisturbed. Close your eyes and follow your breath in and out for a few minutes. Next ask yourself the following questions:
- Why am I here now?
- What is my part in the evolution of all beings?
- What unique gifts do I already have that will help me with my purpose?
- What resources do I need in order to make this manifest?
Open your eyes and write down the information you received. Then, follow that blueprint to unleash your gifts and share them with the world. As Nelson Mandela said, “There is no passion to be found playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
