How Do You See the World?

By Gail Lynne Goodwin. What if the world showed up for us in exactly the same way as we showed up to the world? In other words, what if we start our day with thoughts of gratitude and only expected good things to happen. What if we see only the good in every person, and in every experience of the day? What if we see only the blessing in every situation? How differently do you think the world would show up for us? I've been experimenting with this concept and I'm convinced that the world will show up to match…

The Present of Your Presence

By Gail Lynne Goodwin. In this holiday season of giving presents, let’s not forget the greatest present we can give to another person… that of the gift of being present.  Recently I was in a coffee shop in San Francisco, watching a group of people seated at a table together, all texting on their phones, to someone else. Chances are that if they weren’t with the friends they were with in person, they would have been texting them too. Yet, they were together physically, but still focused elsewhere. What a lost opportunity to connect! We’ve become addicted to being connected,…

Happy Birthday Mom

My mother would have been 78 years old today, had she not passed away from a very unexpected, very sudden stroke nearly 6 months ago. She went from a healthy, vibrant, active senior, still working out daily and riding her bicycle many miles each week, to comatose within 15 minutes and passing away within a day. There was no warning and no time to say “Goodbye for now”. We all know that  our parents will pass away. It’s all part of the circle of life and is nothing surprising- until it happens to us. Then, life as we know it…

Gratitude: The Fastest Way to Where You Want To Be

The greatest gifts, the most meaningful lessons and the most intense personal growth in my life, have come from the conscious practice of gratitude. I've found that no matter where I am in life or where I want to be, the fastest way to get there is with an attitude of gratitude. There is always a reason to be grateful, for when we appreciate and celebrate what we already have in our lives, our hearts open, our blessings multiply and we discover a greater capacity for generosity, cheerfulness, and contentment. A few years ago I had an experience that demonstrates…

The Gift Of Holding Your Child For The First Time

My daughter was born 30 years ago and I can still remember the first moment that I held her, as if it were yesterday. After 28 hours of labor I was thrilled for the process of childbirth to be complete, but I was in awe at the beauty of this tiny life. When she was placed into my arms, I remember the rush of things that went through my mind, from overflowing gratitude, to how will I know what to do to take care of this precious child? I remember staring at her for hours then falling asleep while gazing…

Where Do You Find Balance?

By Gail Lynne Goodwin. Balance. It's something that we all aspire to maintain in our lives, but many times we fall a bit short of our desired outcome. In this day and age where always increasing pressures simultaneously pull us in multiple directions, it's critically important to take the time to reconnect and add balance to our lives. The question is, how do we do that? For me, balance starts with an intention to separate "me" from what's going on around me. It's making the time to recognize, acknowledge and appreciate the inner "me", and knowing that the world will…

Small Moments, Great Things

By Gail Lynne Goodwin. My father often forwards inspirational emails to me. This morning he sent one that touched my heart.  As with most internet forwards, there's no author listed, so I can't give credit where credit is due. So to the unknown catalyst of inspiration, thank you for sharing your story with us. (And, thanks Dad!) ------------------------------------------- The Cab Ride I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I walked to the door and knocked... "Just a minute", answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After…

In Honor of Trey Pennington: Share Love NOW!

Tears are falling this morning for the tragic loss of our friend, Trey Pennington. Trey and I met years ago on line and I could always count on him for friendship, advice and support. With more than 100,000 Twitter followers and nearly 5000 friends on FaceBook, Trey was alone last night as he took his own life, outside of his church. He was a successful husband, father and businessman, but dealt with depression for some time. Those of us who knew Trey, even just online, loved him. But it wasn't enough to prevent this tragedy from happening. I was a…

Life Lessons from a Blueberry Bush

Forest Gump's mama once said that "Life is like a box of chocolates". Last week we visited my brother-in-law Brent's home. As my 2 year-old granddaughter, Luna, sat on my husband's lap picking blueberries, Brent explained to her that "Life is a lot like a blueberry bush". Luna spent a great deal of time, carefully inspecting each berry, selecting just one, then picking it, putting it into her mouth and truly savoring the flavor before moving on to the next one. It was a slow process, but with each individual selection, she made a conscious choice of which berry to…

Inventing Shadows

By Gail Lynne Goodwin. Last night most of America watched the hottest show, The Voice. Although I'd never seen the show before, I watched it, cheering for a young woman named Dia Frampton, who performed a new song called, Inventing Shadows. I was very interested because this song  was co-written by my Grammy Award-winning, songwriter son-in-law, Josh Kear. The lyrics talk about a fearful man who is always inventing shadows where there are none, and seeing negative things that don't exist. With the combination of the lyrics, the unique quality of Dia's voice and the haunting melody, once you hear…

Love Never Dies: The Passing of My Mother

My world changed one week ago, when my mother had a stroke. One minute she was pulling weeds in her garden and the next minute she was in a coma in the hospital, from a blood vessel that had burst in her brain. When I got the news, I flew from our home in Montana to my hometown in Pennsylvania. Even though I left as soon as possible, my mother never regained consciousness, and passed away the day after I arrived. I was blessed to spend her last night by her bedside in the hospital and talked with her most…

Happiness: A Choice We Make Daily

My father sent an email to me this morning that touched my heart. I've included an edited and paraphrased version of it below, with the hopes that it makes you smile....... (thanks Dad, for the reminder).   A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud woman, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably combed, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told…

Share Your Wisdom With Graduates

Graduation is a rite of passage from one part of life to another and a time of celebration. It's also a time for looking forward to creating a life for oneself and making some of the biggest changes in the 18 or so years of life experience. Most of you have already graduated from high school, and many from college. As a gift to my cousin and to my nephew, both of whom are graduating from high school this week, I'm asking for your help in compiling life advice to a graduate. What do you know now that you wish…

The Experience of Being Fish Food- Live In the Present Moment!

Last week I had the opportunity to spend a week with my family enjoying the city of Prague, Czech Republic. As a gift to myself and to my family, I took the week off and completely relaxed. No "working", no blogging, etc. But, as you might have guessed, my mind kept going even if I didn't type the thoughts at the time. I had one experience that I really wanted to share with you, as this blog wrote itself because of this  experience. My daughter and son-in-law treated us to the gift of a foot massage at a Thai spa…

Love Never Dies: An Interview with Maureen Hancock

I had a great conversation last week with my mother-in-law, which in and of itself, isn't remarkable. What's remarkable however, is the fact that she passed away more than two years ago. Last week, I had the pleasure of interviewing today's Inspirational Luminary, Maureen Hancock. After an hour of questions, I thanked Maureen and our interview ended. That's when she asked me if I'd like to "speak" to anyone. To explain this in the proper context, Maureen is a spirit medium who has been communicating with dead people since she was a small child. After reading her book, The Medium…
