Wooohooooo!!!!! This past week, one of my wishes came true.

Six years ago my daughter and I walked into the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville to hear four songwriters perform. The place was jammed and the only two seats were stools at the bar. Grateful, we sat and listened to the music. Within minutes I was captivated.

One of the songwriters, Josh, played a song, Forever Valentine. The song was about a 50ish year-old woman looking back at her life, knowing that we can’t live forever. I was so moved not only by this handsome young guy, his incredible musical talent, his captivating voice and the quality of the song, but more so, by the depth of the songwriter. He shared with us that he wrote this song when he was in his early 20’s.

Not only was the song beautiful and moving, but also I was blown away by how he nailed the emotions of a middle-aged woman reflecting on her life. Most men don’t figure this out at all- let alone be this clear in their understanding while still in their 20’s! With this kind of sensitivity and understanding, I determined right then and there that this was a very good man.

His song touched something deep inside of me. Upon completion of the song, I leaned over to my daughter, and as I was wiping away tears, I told her that this man was the one I wanted to father my grandchildren. With the depth of his wisdom, he would make a great husband.

I went on to share with her that with her musical talent combined with his, I would have the most amazing grandchildren on the planet. She was a bit taken aback by my comments as we’d never heard of or met this man before that night. Instead of thinking I was completely crazy, she talked with him for a few minutes after the show.

Long story short, they started dating a few weeks later and married three years ago. Wherever that inner voice came from, it was right. Josh is the perfect husband for my daughter and a great son-in-law.

Picture 3Now, just six years from that night, we’re celebrating the birth of our first grandchild, Luna Valentine (yes, her middle name came from the song). We came full circle about a month ago when I was visiting Nashville and once again got to watch Josh perform at the Bluebird Cafe- this time, as I sat by the side of my pregnant daughter.

Looking back to that night years ago, I realize my comments came from the overwhelming emotion I felt in that moment. It almost seems crazy to think that I really said that out loud- let alone it happened! But it did.

We’ll have a great story to share with Luna when she’s a bit older. For now, I am grateful for our amazing son-in-law, and for this little blessing, Luna Valentine.

The moral of the story for me is, watch what you ask for…. because you just might get it! (and I’m so very grateful that I did!)

  1. Wow! Congratulations! She is beautiful, and will bring you many years of joy!
By the way, I’d love to hear the song. How can I?

    1. For those that want to hear the song, it’s coming out October 20th on Tim McGraw’s new album. Tim changed the name to Forever Seventeen rather than the original name of Forever Valentine. (Just so you know, Valentine is pronounced as Valenteen). You can listen to a preview on I-Tunes now, but the album isn’t released until 10/20/09! Hope you enjoy it!

  2. Nothing like being in the right place at the right time with the right people. You can never know what good will come to you when you go with your instincts. Congrats to you on Luna’s birth. Precious photo.

  3. Luna looks GORGEOUS! You guys are so lucky to have her. Congratulations. But…

When I asked you for photoS, I was emphasizing the ‘S’ at the end – so a full album
would be more like it, Grandma! 🙂

Here’s wishing Luna a happy, joyous, wonderful life ahead, inspired by music and
    her loving granny.

    All success
    Dr.Mani

P.S. – The story was nice, too 😉

  4. Congratualtions Gail! I am sure that Luna is going to enjoy your motivation and inspirational messages when she gets older.

    God bless her!

  5. Congrats on the new grandbaby!

Great story. I just wonder who picked up who. I don’t think that “Hi. My mom thinks you should be the father of my child. Wanna go out for a drink?” would work well as a pick-up line.

  6. It is clear that there was something within you that knew this young man should become a part of your life. It’s nice when we listen to our inner voice and something goods happens.

    Congratulations!

  7. What an inspiring story and how appropriate you are the Queen of inspiration. Looking over your site you have a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to, including your grandchild. You must be a very intuitive person, but I do believe you know how to create your own reality. Nice to know you Gail, good luck on your tour as well. Hugs

  8. My heart was lifted by the story of Luna Valentine and the part you played in her arrival on planet Earth. Also how your daughter picked up the thread and wove it into the beginning of what is growing into a beautiful tapestry of the life of little Luna Valentine and her family. Luna is a little peach and her granny is a big peach. Her parents must be peachy too.

Love, hugs and blessings to you and your family,
    Hebe XX

  9. Simply Incredible!

I love it. It touches my heart also because my husband and I are songwriters, singers, and keyboardists.
This is what I wanted was someone who shared my passion including my love for Father God. Yes , be careful of what we ask for we may just get it and I’m so glad you, your daughter and I did!

Congratulations to the parents and Grandparents. A beautiful little girl

    Thank you.

Another thing I have a daughters like that who have been blessed because they’re open to listen to
what their parents have to say.

    Blessings,

  11. Wow, what a fascinating story! But what is more powerful is that you didn’t squelch that little voice inside, worried that you would sound crazy. You listened and offered it openly. I need to work on listening – who knows what might happen!

    1. Thank you Glenda! She is quite the little miracle and we’re feeling very grateful. We got lucky with Josh too.

Big hugs and thanks for your comments.

  12. First of all, congratulations on being a grandma! What a precious baby! It is amazing how our intuition works, that night you listened to it and shared it and well, the rest is history. This is a beautiful story!
