We often look for inspiration outside of ourselves – from gurus, celebrities, Oprah, the Royal Family, the Pope, those who are unreachable. Inspiration has always been right in front of you and inside of you. The sun rises and sets every day without interruption and rarely do we take time to notice. What is the point? Inspiration is all around us.
Today, you are where you are because you have absorbed inspiration along the way. Your third-grade teacher, your mother, a beautiful flower, the tree that you planted in your backyard, a pet, or the kids playing in the street on Saturday morning, is inspiration. It is these small experiences that inspire us in personal, consistent, and deep ways.
More empowering than the out of reach guru or the neighbor’s new born baby, is the inspiration of you. No one can be depressed or unhappy if they draw inspiration from the person that is with them day in and day out and knows what we have gone through, the person in the mirror. That person is you.
Be inspired by what you have accomplished, endured, and overcome in your life to get to where you are today. Many people look for others to approve of them, to tell them that they are okay, to tell them who they are, and whether they are somebody. And also, many people look to others to inspire some kind of greatness in them. Truth is, if you gathered a moment to reflect on you and your own life, you will find that you are already great and a being of luminous inspiration.
Human beings are sculptured from stardust, have a body that can heal itself, and lungs that inhale and exhale air without even a thought of how it is happens. More incredible is our mind that thinks a thought, creates an image of that thought while feeling the energy of that thought turning it into physical matter. If you are not inspired by that which you are, then nothing will ever inspire you. All the inspiration that you seek from outside of yourself is a tease, a trailer, and an appetizer to the real thing, the blockbuster, and the entre. To truly be inspired, go look in the mirror, smile at what you see, and feel the love that is within you. To truly be inspired, be present and think about how out of millions of sperm racing to connect with one egg, you were there first. You grew from a wiggly pod into a flesh and bone human being simply by eating food. Wow! That is inspiration.
A time, not long ago, I was homeless. During that time, I authored four books, facilitated free health talks at Natural Grocers in Tucson, Phoenix, Sedona, and Scottsdale, appeared on podcasts, radio shows, internet television, and volunteered at the local welcome center. From a non-egoic, humble and loving space, I inspire me. You have experienced and survived so much, so be inspired by your life.
