5 Principles To Lead A Fulfilled Life

1. To learn anything, you cannot be afraid to ask questions. This fear no doubt harkens back to grade school, when other kids would poke fun at the kid who asked for clarification on something. Unfortunately, most people don't grow out of it, fearing others will think them simple. The reality is, while everyone is an expert at something, no one can be an expert in everything. If you don't ask, you won't learn. Ask questions until you are satisfied you understand the answer. This may be the only opportunity you have to learn. Don't miss out on the experience.…

5 Steps to Living Your Dream

What could you accomplish if you stopped listening to doubt and fear and went after a life most people only dream of? For 12 years, I listened to my doubt and fear, I listened to the negative voices of other people telling me my dream wasn’t possible. Maybe they were right.... I had no college degree and no special skills - how could a bread delivery driver from Wisconsin become an author, speaker and coach? It seemed impossible. After the death of my father, I realized that whether or not it seemed impossible, I had to try. Life is too…

What Baby Steps Will You Take Today?

If you're anything like me, with the New Year ahead of us, our minds are now turning to the things we'd like to accomplish in the New Year and to our resolutions. With the close of one year, it seems natural to look at our accomplishments and our outstanding goals and dreams. Sometimes that reflection can bring a feeling of excitement, and sometimes it can create a feeling of overwhelming proportion when the mountain ahead of us appears too large to summit. It's critical when looking at any large task to remember one thing. You first learned to walk by…

Right now I want to share the success strategies I have followed to reach tens of thousands of people with my audio meditations, facilitate more than 400 meditation workshops, have hundreds of my articles published and create a business out of my greatest passions in life. I do want to address the topic of “manifesting” for a moment. I hear so many new age type people talking about manifesting their visions. But if you ask most…

How Long Does it Take to Reach a Dream?

Sometimes dreams take a little longer than we expect, but with perseverance and belief, they will come true - all in good time. Many years ago I had a stained glass art studio that I loved. Through divorce and the challenges of life, I lost my studio. I packed the materials, knowing that I’d have one again, but I didn’t know where or when. For the last year I’ve been working on a project inside Glacier National Park, called Glacier Bear Retreat. As you might know, we bought an old cabin, removed it from the property and built our new…

Adapting To Trials

During the course of our lives, each of us will undergo some major trial, the nature of which is immaterial, for each ordeal carries a weight that can only be measured by the one who bears it. My trial began in the summer of 1954, when I was stricken with polio. I don't remember much of the day on which polio entered my life, other than that that was the last time I was able to walk under my own power. I was hospitalized until the initial thrust of the attack, which paralyzed me from the neck down, subsided. After which,…

Sponsored: Strategies for the Very Serious Business of Happiness

Often, we think of our professional lives as defining of our success as a human being. This is apparent at any social gathering where what we do as a career becomes the center of conversation. Indeed, what we "do" as a profession is important to our economic sustainability. However, the real question, the one that speaks to the heart of the matter of our sustainable wellbeing is: how happy are we in what we do regardless of what our “business” might be? In my coaching practice, workshops and on Harvesting Happiness Talk Radio, I emphasize the need to show up for…

Friendly Reminders from a Montana Huckleberry Patch

Living in Montana definitely has its perks- especially this time of the year- during huckleberry season. A few days ago, my son, his girlfriend and I went into the mountains of Montana in search of huckleberries. We drove for a few miles up a dusty, dirt road, then parked the car and hiked into the woods. For those not familiar with huckleberries, they grow on bushes usually not more than 18" off the ground and produce a somewhat tart berry, most closely resembling a blueberry. As usual, I couldn't help but relate this experience- in this case berry picking- to…

This Too Shall Pass

We have an incredible opportunity to learn things in life by simple paying attention to Nature. For me, today was one of those days. I woke this morning remembering something Dr. John Dimartini shared with me in our interview. He said that when he wakes in the morning, he won't get out of bed without first shedding a tear of gratitude. As soon as I woke up this morning, before I ever opened my eyes, I lay there in bed thinking of this and listed the many things I was grateful for. I also had a list of "to do's"…

Biking Up the Hills of Life? Keep on Pedaling!

Yesterday we went for a bicycle ride through the outskirts of downtown Boulder. It was one of those picture-perfect crisp autumn days filled with clear cool mountain air, bright sunshine and Nature at her finest. The paved bike path meanders through city and wooded park areas, back and forth over Boulder Creek and up and down small hills at the base of the Rocky Mountains. The last flaming colors of autumn had fallen and were covered with touches of snow still remaining from Friday morning's passing storm. The first ice of winter was desperately clinging to the rocks as it…

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough take Baby Steps

I live in a beautiful little house in the foothills of Boulder, CO. Our home is ideally situated between several mountains, perched on a ridge and can be seen from the surrounding areas in all directions. Our neighborhood is filled with windy, twisty roads, some with the same name and folks often get lost up and down the sides of the mountains. This morning Koda, our Samoyed pup, and I decided to take a walk. Instead of our normal predictable path, we set out in the opposite direction. We were both invigorated by the cooler fall temperatures and the glorious…

GPS- Global Persistence System

My girlfriend Elaine has a business project she's been working on for nearly a year. This morning when we spoke she voiced her frustration about how her project seems to be going in a different direction than what she anticipated. I smiled and shared an experience with her. Recently we drove from Seattle to Boulder, about 1500 miles. Our Prius has a GPS unit that makes life so easy. I just enter where I want to go and within seconds, I'm given the choice of three routes including the shortest distance, the shortest time and an alternative route, with more…

The River of My Life

Recently a friend of mine told me that I have an interesting mind: one that can see anything physical and through metaphor, relate it to my life. Lately, just to see if she's right, I've been paying attention to things around me, choosing an object and seeing how I can relate it to my life. Yesterday as I flew from Philadelphia to Seattle, via Dallas, I decided to see if she was right. As we were nearing Dallas, a river intrigued me, bending and winding through a very dry area. From 30,000 feet it looked like a cinnamon pretzel, twisty,…
