When I was 26 years old, a man pointed a gun at my head and shot me four times. I responded with love and compassion, and so today I am alive and well. Had I reacted differently, I would have died that night. What happened?
My search for answers has led me to great heights and great depths. I have explored one marvelous topic my whole life: Consciousness. It has kept me fascinated and entertained for decades.
When you use awareness to examine awareness, things get slippery. It’s like standing between opposing mirrors and seeing an infinite array of selves and mirrors. Consciousness is at the very center of your life. It can take any shape, and it is playful. The more you examine it, the more you grow, expand, and enjoy life.
My biggest breakthrough came when I studied beliefs. Beliefs are a basic building block of consciousness. They function like tiny experience-creating machines. If you’re not sure whether this is true, try this experiment.
For a moment, feel what it feels like to believe “I’m not worthy.” Say it to yourself as if 100% true. It will produce very specific sensations inside your body. Now, remove that belief and feel what it feels like to believe, “I am a sacred and worthy being.” It feels better, doesn’t it? You can try this experiment with any belief. You’ll notice that every belief produces a particular and unique experience.
We obtained most of our beliefs through indoctrination. Well-meaning parents, teachers, leaders, and friends told us what to believe. We wanted to be loved and accepted, so we absorbed their views of the world.
At times, we came to our own conclusions – when we were young, and feeling scared, hurt, angry, or overwhelmed, we created beliefs about ourselves, others, or the world. However, this is not the best time to decide how life is, and will be!
When you discover that you can change any belief you have, regardless of where it came from, you learn that you can choose your experiences in life. You become a master, rather than a victim, of your reality. Changing your beliefs is easy to do, once you know how. Take charge of your beliefs, and you take charge of your life.
If I could add one thing to every school’s curriculum, it would be belief-change technology. It’s the core of self-empowerment and freedom. If you don’t like something inside yourself, change your beliefs. If you don’t like your circumstances, change your beliefs. If you want to create something in the world, and you think you can’t, begin by changing your beliefs.
When the gun was pointed at my head, and I couldn’t do anything to change my circumstances, I still had the ability to change my beliefs. It altered my experience of being shot, and that saved my life.
Change your beliefs if you’d like to save your own life.

What you say is absolutely right. For our attitude ,bodily responses and our behavior are all guided by our beliefs, which we have come to believe and be guided by them. We can improve our lives by changing our beliefs. And we must continually audit them and correct them.
Yes, it is true that we can change our beliefs. It works very well. Thanks for your article.
While not always easy, it is imperative to examine our belief systems and release those that do not bring a feeling of well-being. It is up to each of us to empower our own mind and spirit. Thanks for the well stated reminder Lion.
